This work was composed as the prelude to Howard Blake’s oratorio ‘Benedictus’, the first performance being given by Frederick Riddle at the premiere in Worth Abbey, Sussex in 1980. He later edited it for publication as a concert piece with his bowings and fingerings in 1989. The Prelude is also used as a diploma test piece.
