The work was originally composed for soprano and eight cellos in May 1999 and given its first performance at The Warwick Festival by Mary Nelson and Red Barn Cellos.
A transcription for soprano and piano quartet was made by the composer in 2003 for a performance in the Wigmore Hall by Patricia Rozario & The Schubert Ensemble.
This transcription for piano trio was created by the composer in June 2015.
